Watercare Filter Station

Construction for Waitakere Dam filter station 768x634
The Waitakere Filter Station was built in 1927-1928 by an all-Dalmatian work force on Fletcher Construction’s payroll. Excavations were done by hand. The original compressors used in the filters were made by Sandy Filtration and were still in use in 1991. Pukearuhe Pa

Pukearuhe Pa protected the major east-west trail along which were kainga at Te Kopua (Falls Park, Henderson), Oratia, Opanuku and Opareira (Henderson Valley). It is one of the few pa built on the eastern edges of the Waitakere Ranges. These sites were known to include gardens and cultivations.
